Clean Your Jewellery
Your jewellery should be cleaned before it is appraised. A professional appraiser will clean your diamonds and gemstones to make the best possible estimate of their colour and clarity. Doing a preliminary cleaning at home helps with the process.
Inspect your jeweLlEry and note any needed repairs
As you clean your jewellery, check for loose stones, sharp prongs, weak clasps and stretched-out strings on beads or pearls. Any issues noted will be identified by the valuer, who will also point out additional repairs if required
GATHER YOUR Documentation
Bring any documentation such as previous appraisals, certificates or receipts to your appointment. This helps expedite the process and ensures all relevant information is considered.

Documents that are useful include:
- Old appraisals
- Diamond or gemstone certificates
- Old insurance summaries listing the jewellery
- Letters or notes detailing the history of the jewellery
Make an inventory
To save time, create an inventory of your jewellery before your appointment. Place each item in a clear sealable bag and group jewellery in a consistent way for easy reference.
A suggested order includes:
- Rings
- Earrings
- Pendants and chains
- Brooches, pins, and tie clips
- Bracelets, cufflinksand watches
This arrangement allows the appraiser to address complex items first.
